Campers, volunteers, and parents fill the Lizarran patio area. On the wall in the background is the Thank You banner that the Day Campers made for and presented to the Lizarran owners.
The food is on the plate; can I dig in? [What would Emily Post say to that question?]
“Thank You” presents of lavender sachets, beeswax candles, and beautiful cards signed by the campers are presented to the teen interns, volunteers, and teachers. The tummy is full, the celebration winds down, and everyone walks back to the Garden only a short block away. I think it might be time for that nap I learned about in my Kindergarten days and dreams that relive all the wonderful events and activities of this summer’s Garden Day Camp.

The Celebration Moves to Lizarran Tapas Restaurant
Still hungry? Are we there yet? Yes! As the Day Campers walked out onto the patio at Lizarran and sat down at the table set especially for them, they passed Chef Jonathan cooking up a huge pan of paella. The paella was of course full of those veggies [see earlier post] that the campers had picked fresh from the Garden that morning.
Garden teachers, Judy Hess and Katie Hogan, pose with Chef Jonathan as he cooks. [Is Judy licking her lips in anticipation??]
Joe Walton, co-owner of Lizarran, welcomes the Garden Day Campers to the restaurant for their special luncheon.
The paella turns out beautifully and is accompanied by some tilapia with a garden salsa topping and a Garden salad!

Celebrating at Garlic City Books
The Garden Day Campers were invited to partake of a free ice cream cone at the recently opened downtown bookstore, Garlic City Books. Once the list of flavors had been announced, campers stepped up one by one, named their desired flavor, and received their ice cream treat. [So many flavors from which to choose, what should I do?]
In return for this generous gift, the campers gathered outside the bookstore and presented Sam, the bookstore manager, with a big Thank You banner that they had made and signed.

Garden Day Camp Ends With Celebration
August 12, 2010, the last day of the inaugural summer Garden Day Camp of the Demonstration Garden, ended in a celebration that saw the campers, staff, and volunteers accept invitations to visit two of our local businesses.
In preparation, the campers picked produce from the Garden to be used in the lunch meal they were to eat at Lizarran restaurant later.
Before leaving the Garden to walk downtown, there was a talk about safety and good manners when being
