Wanted to let you know about our free "Garden Cafe" film series. It is the First Wednesday of each month.
Our next showing will be Wednesday March 2, 2011 at Lizarran Restaurant, 6th & Monterey Street - upstairs, 7pm-9pm
This month's movie, Fresh, is about our food system, how we treat food, our land and our cultural practices. We hope you will join us for this great film, we will have the film and discussion time following the film.

You can also go to, freshthemovie.com for more information.

John not only prepared our big bed with the compost that was delivered earlier from our good friend Chris from West Side Nursery, he and Glen rototilled and then John decided to come back with more friends, the next day, to find an old abandoned outhouse remains during a dig in the garden.

The other day Art came by and added a bat house to our garden, we hope some bat friends soon will take up ownership of the bat house. There are slots inside so many many bats can live together. Bat guano is one of the best fertilizers, so we hope they come and stay awhile, not to mention helping us with the bad insects (I hope they eat the bad and leave the good!).

What is the MLK Day of Service?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.

We are asking our community to join us in the Gilroy Demonstration Garden to do some pre-spring cleaning, removing weeds, clearing out beds, compost making, and all around garden chores!

We are holding a day of service in our very own Gilroy Demonstration Garden.

When: Monday January 17, 2011

Time: 10am-3pm check in starts at 9:30am

Where: Gilroy Demonstration Garden, Eigleberry Street, between 6th and 7th, downtown Gilroy

Why: Day of Service and Clean-up for our community Demonstration Garden

What: Garden Chores, Clean-up, Compost, and more, bring gloves and tools if you have them, we do have some tools and gloves to use.

Meet your neighbors down at the garden.

Learn what is going on and growing in our downtown garden.

See you there!

Lunch Provided, please rsvp to give us an idea of how much to bring.

We hope you can join us on this day of community service,

Sincerely,

Judy Hess
